Weatherwise it feels like Cape Town has leapt from winter straight into summer without the transition of spring. Last Monday night it was winter duvets, extra blankets and a hot water bottle. On Saturday it was flip-flops and shorts and a fan!
Friends and I attempted to go to the theatre on Saturday night in Camps Bay - a well loved beach destination for visitors and locals. I left early because I knew the traffic was going to be heavy, but I didn’t expect the sheer volume of cars driving into Camps Bay. It was early evening so the sun had almost set. Out of the three of us going, only one made it and only because the theatre started the show late.
I turned back. At 7.30pm (when the show was meant to be starting) I was still about twenty to thirty minutes away from the theatre. I am still astounded, not only about the amount of traffic but also about the bad behaviour of drivers on the road.
Here is your writing prompt:
When have you been stuck in traffic? what were the reasons? and what were the consequences?
If you are writing fiction give this scenario to your character. You may want to introduce an unusual animal or sighting. Like I did in this story:
Aerial shot of Camps Bay and parts of Clifton, Cape Town, South Africa.
