Sunday Walking
Over the past year I have had a few injuries and been ill which has prevented me from exercising as much as I would like. I am unfit, the most unfit I have been in eighteen years. I am at the age where it is going to take time to work with myself to where I feel comfortable about my level of fitness. Today I took myself out for a walk along a local green belt – it was a walk that took longer than hour, a walk than I can usually do in less than forty-five minutes. I did stop on several occasions to take photographs of the sun filtering through flowers though.
One of my creativity doings is to take photographs as part of a weekly prompt and challenge on a website called 52 Frames. (The link to my page is in my bio). The photo on this post is one of those I took today. My walk serves a few purposes – it helps me connect to my creativity, to the bigger world and helps me get fitter. The benefits of walking, particularly in nature, are well documented, and a few google searches will give you lots of information. For me the creativity effects last after the walk – I have been working on a poem, and wondering how I can bring in a specific element to make the poem more meaningful and while I was grocery shopping after my walk an idea popped into my head.
When I lived in London I used to walk through Berkley Square on my way to work – on those days when I had the time – it helped to set me up for the day – here is a short poem I wrote about that time:
Wishing you a week filled with connections, and time to breathe in nature and fresh air.
